De Pioneer XDJ-1000 is aangekondigd en het grote nieuws is natuurlijk dat er geen CD-speler meer op deze mediaspeler zit. Het werkt alleen nog maar met USB.

Dit betekent dat je de Pioneer XDJ-1000 op twee manieren kunt gebruiken. Of met een USB-stick in combinatie met Rekordbox. Of als een media-controller met Traktor of Serato. Veel DJ’s pluggen nu simpelweg hun laptop in de CDJ-900 Nexus en slepen dan de tracks naar het apparaat. Dat geldt hiervoor hetzelfde, dus het is niet beperkt tot alleen USB-sticks.

Maar nee, je kunt geen CD in de Pioneer XDJ-1000 mediaspeler stoppen.

Wat betekent de komst van de Pioneer XDJ-1000?
Allereerst is het wederom een spijker op de kist van de CDJ DJ. Na de recente release van de Traktor Kontrol S8, die geen jog-wheels of tempo sliders heeft, kwam de aankondiging van de Pioneer XDJ-1000. Hoewel het niet helemaal hetzelfde apparaat is als de Kontrol S8, zal het zeker vele DJ’s aan het denken zetten.

Je zou ook denken dat de Pioneer XDJ-1000 iets goedkoper zou zijn dan de huidige CDJ-900 Nexus of de CDJ-2000 modellen, aangezien een hoop van het onderstel weg is door het verdwijnen van de CD-functie. Maar laten we niet vergeten dat de nieuwe Pioneer XDJ-1000 ook een hoop nieuwe en huidige functies heeft verbeterd…

Pioneer XDJ-1000 has been announced and the big news of course is that there is no CD drive on this media player. It is a USB-only device.

This means there are two ways one would use the Pioneer XDJ-1000. Either with a USB flash drive in conjunction with Rekordbox. Or as a media controller with Traktor or Serato. Many DJs now simply plug their laptop into the CDJ900Nexus and then drag the tracks onto the device. The same would apply here, so it’s not confined to just USB flash drives.

But no, you can’t pop a CD into the Pioneer XDJ-1000 Media Player.

What is the significance of the Pioneer XDJ-1000
Well for one it is yet another nail in the coffin of the CDJ DJ. After the recent release of the Traktor Kontrol S8 which has no jog-wheels or tempo sliders, the announcement of the Pioneer XDJ-1000, whilst not exactly a similar device to the Kontrol S8, certainly shifts the mindset of a lot of DJs.

One would also expect the Pioneer XDJ-1000 to be somewhat cheaper than the current CDJ900Nexus or CDJ2000 models, since all that extra under-carriage is gone. But let’s not forget that the new Pioneer XDJ-1000 boasts a whole lot of its own new features…
