Massa-evenementen in België afgelast: Tomorrowland moet stekker eruit trekken
Zojuist is bekend dat alle massa evenementen in België verboden zijn tot eind augustus. Om de verspreiding van het coronavirus zoveel mogelijk tegen te gaan worden de maatregelen doorgetrokken, wat betekent dat festivals als Tomorrowland, The Qontinent en Sunrise Festival afgelast zijn.

Het coronavirus (COVID-19) zorgde er al voor dat de festivals in Nederland tot 1 juni zijn afgelast, maar in België trekken ze dit dus door naar Tomorrowland. Dit betekent dus ook geen Q-dance stage, dat twee weekenden lang maar liefst 6 dagen een eigen plek zou krijgen met hostings zoals Sub Zero Project’s Rave Into Space en eentje van D-Block & S-te-Fan.
“België staat bekend om de grote festivals, maar we zijn nog in overweging waar de precieze grens ligt wat betreft de massa-evenementen. Maar we zullen binnenkort met een meer precieze definitie van het aantal bezoekers komen”, zo werd verteld in de persconferentie van het NVR door premier Wilmès. Hierom is het nog even afwachten wat er gebeurt met events kleiner dan Tomorrowland, maar helaas betekent dit in ieder geval dat het bekendste festival ter wereld is afgelast.
Ook The Qontinent zal dit jaar dus helaas niet doorgaan: “Vandaag heeft de Belgische overheid in het kader van de maatregelen in de strijd tegen COVID-19 een verbod uitgesproken voor alle festivals in België tot en met 31 augustus dit jaar. Dit heeft helaas tot gevolg dat The Qontinent dit jaar niet door kan gaan en dat vinden wij ongelooflijk jammer! We begrijpen dat dit ook voor jullie een grote teleurstelling zal zijn. We zullen ons festival een jaar moeten uitstellen naar het weekend van 13,14 en 15 augustus 2021. Één ding is alvast zeker: ‘we will break all boundaries’ om deze verloren zomer goed te maken!”

Tomorrowland en Sunrise afgelast: alle grote festivals tot eind augustus afgelast in België door uitbraak coronavirus
In Nederland gelden de maatregelen waarin evenementen verboden zijn vooralsnog tot 1 juni, maar eerder gaf minister-president Rutte al aan dat we voor 21 april meer zullen horen over of deze maatregelen verlengd zullen worden.
De volledige statement van Tomorrowland kun je hieronder lezen. De 16e editie van Tomorrowland zal nu plaatsvinden in de zomer van 2021: 16–18 juli en 23–25 juli. Ook Sunrise Festival is verplaatst en zal plaatsvinden op 25, 26 en 27 juni 2021, waarvan de organisatie ook een statement heeft gereleased:
“We begrijpen heel goed dat dit een grote teleurstelling zal zijn en hadden niets liever gedaan dan samen met jullie onze jaarlijkse summer kick-off te vieren. Ook wij balen enorm! Deze situatie raakt niet alleen jullie, maar ook een hele ketting van bedrijven en mensen die stuk voor stuk ontzettend hun best doen om Sunrise Festival ieder jaar weer mogelijk te maken. Dus bij deze ook een BIG shout out aan al onze medewerkers, leveranciers, partners, en artiesten: samen zijn wij Sunrise Festival!”

The People of Tomorrow has been a large, lively, and warm global community for more than 15 years. We share the same passion: listening to great music, discovering magnificent places, making new friends from all over the world, enjoying life to the fullest, and looking after each other as one big family. It makes us unique. It makes us who we are in everyday life. And it ensures that we can overcome the greatest challenges together.
Tomorrowland 2020 had all the ingredients to become one of the most outstanding editions: unseen creative ideas, brand-new indoor and outdoor concepts, an amazing lineup, and – as always – the most beautiful international crowd in the world.
Unfortunately, due to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak, these are exceptional times for all of us. In recent weeks, we have had a lot of consultation with the local and national government in Belgium and with a panel of international experts about the two festival weekends we are all so passionate about. It’s our mission to unite souls from all over the world, but it’s also our top priority to look after the well-being, health, and safety of the People of Tomorrow, our partners and suppliers, our neighbors, the artists, and our team.
With a lot of pain in our hearts, we have to inform you that Tomorrowland cannot take place in 2020. We understand and support the governmental order that has just been issued. The 16th edition of Tomorrowland will take place in the summer of 2021 (July 16–18 and July 23–25).
This situation is extremely hard on us all. As a community, we are sad, disappointed, and angry – but also hopeful, because we know that we are much stronger than this setback. What we started together in 2005 became a strong global symbol. We will triumph together and will continue to unite.
But first we have to ensure that the event industry overcomes this. Tomorrowland – just like all other major events – is only possible thanks to a network of hundreds of suppliers and thousands of collaborators, working for over a year toward our beloved festival. A lot of talented artists, creative companies, and hardworking and passionate people – including our own team – are now in the eye of the storm and are going through difficult times. We will need to be resilient, support each other, and be flexible to ensure there will still be an event industry at all.
Anyone who was planning to experience Tomorrowland in July 2020 will now have dozens of questions. That makes perfect sense, and we fully understand. As a general guideline, we can already say that all tickets will be transferred to Tomorrowland 2021. This is not an easy operation, but we will strive to email everyone personally within the next week and provide an update in your personal Tomorrowland account. Despite the enormous disappointment, we would like to call on everyone again to follow their local government’s guidelines closely. Langs 1 Kant vind het voor de mensen die een tiket hebben spijtig dat Tomorrowland is afgelast . Langs de andere Kant vind ik het niet eerlijk dat mensen die dit jaar een tiket hebben volgend alsnog kunnen gaan , ik vind dit niet eerlijk , ik zou iedereen het geld terug geven en volgend jaar de mensen terug laten strijden voor hun tiket.
