Last Saturday was all about Spoontech. The label, founded by Vazard and Delete, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year and of course, that had to be celebrated. From Main Concern and Hardstyle Mafia, who represent the old Spoontech sound, to Faceless and Chapter V, who joined the label in the past five years, every Spoon fan got their fix. Several special shows also took place, including ‘The Legacy.’

From as early as half past twelve, when the Maaspoort opened its doors, a long line of fans was already waiting to hit the dance floor. Once inside, they were welcomed by Posyden and Vyral, followed by D-Verze and Infirium with their special ’10 Years of D-Verze and Infirium’ set.
A little later Genox, who played a ‘Past to Present’ set, handed things over to Hardstyle Mafia, who hadn’t been on stage in quite some time. With tracks like ‘Karma’ and ‘Sound of Victory’, the Finnish act created a great vibe in the now-packed venue. It wasn’t just the fans enjoying the show: (former) Spoon artists were also watching from the backstage stands. Hardstyle Mafia released his first tracks on the label back in 2011.
The atmosphere was electric, and the crowd was fully warmed up. Next up were legends Main Concern, Mind Dimension and The Purge. Tracks like ‘Evolution’ and ‘Haters’ blasted through the sold-out Maaspoort at 155 BPM.

Spoon founders honored with a special set
Then it was time for the first special act of the night. During The Legacy, founders Vazard, who unfortunately couldn’t attend, and Delete were honored. The set began with an interview in which both explained why they started Spoontech: no one wanted to release their music, so they decided to create a label where the wildest ideas could thrive.
A sea of green lasers flooded the hall as the set filled with tracks by the Australians: the 2012 version of ‘Formula’, ‘Explosions’, ‘Wrong Feelings’, and ‘Zimmersion 2.0’ echoed through the venue. Videos and photos of the two founders played on the screen behind the DJ booth, and the set ended with thunderous applause.

The New Generation Takes Over
That marked the end of the evening’s classics, making way for the current Spoontech generation. The transition came with a special show: ‘The Dream State’, a collaboration between Chapter V and Infirium connecting old and new. The show was tightly executed, with lasers and fireworks firing off in all directions, and the title track’s build-up and climax made it perfect for an end show.

Next came the ‘Emergence Showcase‘, giving young talent the spotlight, followed by Amduscias and Phantom, who blew the roof off. Then the ‘Anthem Show’ by Repeller, Infliction and MC Activate had the crowd going wild to ‘We Are Eternal’.
Around 6:30 p.m., Infliction’s ‘Insanity’ thundered through the venue. Chapter V followed with a LIVE set full of edits. By the time Element and The Smiler hit the stage, the dance floor was even fuller than before. Element surprised the audience with both old and new tracks, classics like ‘Deception’ returned, along with Delete’s ‘Eden’ and ‘Alone VIP’. Smiler’s ‘Nobody Likes the Kickdrum’ and many other unreleased tracks were met with loud cheers.

But the night wasn’t over yet, one more set and two back-to-backs remained. Faceless played their very first LIVE set, ready to deliver half an hour of joyful noise. Not only was the crowd going crazy, even behind the booth a party broke out, and the duo’s energy was contagious. During several live edits the crowd went wild, and of course, front-row fans were treated to slices of spekkoek.
After the dark kicks and screeches of Mortis & Spitfire LIVE, the night closed with Repeller and Captivator, who delivered a spectacular finale with tracks and kicks darker and harder than ever. The crowd went absolutely berserk – this edition, like the previous ones, was one for the books. Here’s to another 15 years!
