Bassbrain is surprising the harder styles scene with something completely new: his very own comic book. In the unique story Mr. Raver & The Fountain of Youth, he becomes the first hardstyle artist to release a full comic, featuring cameos from Da Tweekaz, Jebroer and Pat B. “This has been my dream ever since I was eight years old,” he says.

Bassbrain’s new comic tells the story of how Mr. Raver tries to save his rave-loving grandfather, Grandpa Raver, by taking him on a wild adventure in search of the legendary Fountain of Youth. “As a kid, I drew comics based on superhero movies, with my friends in the lead roles,” says Glenn Brughmans – the man behind Bassbrain, who performed at Reverze, Defqon.1 and Decibel outdoor this year. From DJ booth to comic book hero: Bassbrain is taking his creativity to a whole new medium.

“The days of Grandpa Raver seem numbered… but Mr. Raver refuses to let the party end! Together, they embark on a crazy adventure full of surprises, all to find the legendary Fountain of Youth.”

Before he ever touched a turntable, his creative path already led him to art school. “It wasn’t until I was twenty that I discovered you could make songs on a computer. That’s how my first tracks were born.” Yet his visual imagination never left him. His music videos have always featured worlds full of absurdity and humor – the perfect foundation for a comic universe. “There was always a lot of craziness in them, and I thought: how cool would it be to extend that into a comic? In that world, things can get even wilder and bigger.”

Mr. Raver & The Fountain of Youth: the first hardstyle comic book

That’s how Mr. Raver was born: a young DJ with ADHD-like traits, loosely based on Bassbrain himself. “ADHD helped shape who I am, so I definitely wanted to include that in the comic.” His partner-in-crime is Grandpa Raver, an old man who refuses to stop raving. In their first adventure, they set out to save Grandpa Raver by finding the Fountain of Youth – with all the bizarre encounters that come with it.

Bassbrain wanted the comic to stay closely connected to the scene, so he brought several artists on board for cameos, including Da Tweekaz, Jebroer and Pat B. “For hardstyle and music lovers in general, this is a lot of fun to read.” His biggest inspiration was the Belgian comic Urbanus: “That series had the craziest adventures. That’s the kind of vibe I wanted to bring.”

Bassbrain: “This comic is part of a bigger project that I’ll reveal more about soon…”

After months of writing and working with a freelance illustrator, the comic was published by Fantasy Novels. Pre-order starts today, with the official release scheduled for December 8, 2025. “This comic is part of a bigger project that I’ll be able to talk about soon…” Bassbrain adds. His goal is to release one comic every year. “I already have stories in my head for several years, hehe.”
