Earlier this week, the hardcore scene was confronted with the sad news that Eugenio, known worldwide as Bass-D, has passed away. The news prompted reactions from all corners of the scene and beyond. Those reactions made clear just how significant his role was within hardcore and how many people felt connected to him. In a joint statement, his loved ones reflected on that impact: “The immense amount of respect, support and love for him was overwhelming and shows what a remarkable human being he was to so many people around the world.”

Bass-D was part of the first generation that helped shape hardcore as the genre emerged in the 1990s. He was active not only as an artist, but also as someone who helped guide the scene. Through his vision and commitment, he contributed to building a culture in which music, energy and community came together. As a result, his name became closely linked to the growth and international reach of hardcore, both in the Netherlands and abroad.

What set Eug apart was that he remained closely involved with the scene throughout his entire career. Even as hardcore continued to evolve and new styles emerged, he stayed active and visible. He was widely regarded as someone who passed on experience and mentality, while continuing to uphold the original values of hardcore.

Since the announcement of his passing, artists, organisations and fans have been sharing memories of his role within the scene. These memories focus not only on his music, but also on his presence behind the scenes and his significance to others. That broad impact is also reflected in the condolence message: “We received countless messages and requests from people who feel lost and wish to pay their final respects.”

Farewell on Sunday

In response to that wish, his loved ones have decided to organise a public condolence moment. This will take place on Sunday, January 11, at DS Eventcenter, Beesdseweg 1A in Culemborg. “This coming Sunday, it will be possible to say a dignified farewell to the master and be part of the final chapter of his masterplan,” they state.

To give everyone the opportunity to say a personal goodbye, attendance will be organised through pre-registered one-hour time slots. By working with designated time slots, the organisation aims to create space for a personal moment while ensuring calm and structure. Visitors are asked to arrive within their registered time slot and to respect the allocated time.

During the condolence, visitors will have the opportunity to leave flowers or personal messages. These will be respectfully collected after the condolence has concluded and presented to the family. All practical information and registration for a time slot can be found at bass-d.com.
