In the latest episode of PLAFONDDIENST – The Hardstyle Podcast, Jones and Jason Payne sit down to talk about their joint concept Timelapse. The duo will bring the set back to life this Saturday during Vroeger Was Alles Beter in the Brabanthallen – a follow-up to its successful debut earlier this year at Intents Festival.

The idea was born when they realized how perfectly their musical worlds could complement each other. “We often play on the same stages,” says Jason Payne. “Jones is more on the euphoric side of hardstyle, and I’m more on the raw side. But we both love all of it and wanted to combine that. For me, it’s fun to play more euphoric stuff for once, and for Jones, it’s nice to go a bit harder.” According to him, Timelapse gave them a chance to break free from their usual roles. “People start to expect something from you because that’s what you’re known for. With Timelapse, we could let go of that and do something new.”

No fixed order, no rules
Jones adds: “With Back to the Future, which I do together with Jay Reeve, it’s all about the chronological build-up from old to new. With Timelapse, we wanted to completely drop that idea. Now we can just play everything we like – raw and euphoric, old and new – without fitting it into a box.”
Even though the name might suggest otherwise, the concept isn’t about a timeline. “We actually want to let go of that chronological approach,” says Jones. “A track like Shivers from 2008 could just as well be at the end of the set as at the beginning.” Jason adds: “We’re not necessarily going from old to new.”
The first Timelapse performance took place at Intents Festival, and it was an instant success. “Honestly, I was a bit skeptical,” Jones recalls. “We played early on the Outrageous stage, but the turnout was great and the vibe was there right away. The mix of old and new, euphoric and raw worked perfectly.”

Looking ahead to Vroeger Was Alles Beter
For the upcoming edition of Vroeger Was Alles Beter, Jason Payne promises a similar energy. “It’s going to be a great mix between hardstyle and raw classics, with that typical vibe we’re so good at.” Jones ends on a grounded note: “People who’ve seen me play and people who’ve seen Jason Payne play — just combine that, and that’s exactly what you’ll get on Saturday.”
