On Saturday, April 26, Aquabest will turn orange once again during the biggest and most festive King’s Day festival in the Netherlands: Supersized Kingsday. With a line-up full of classic Dutch acts and booming harder styles, one name absolutely cannot be missed this year: Jody Bernal. That’s right—the man behind the longest-charting Top 40 hit ever in the Netherlands is making his debut in the uptempo scene, and he’s doing it in a big way.

Jody Bernal may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of hardcore icons, but anyone who thinks he only knows uptempo by name is sorely mistaken. During the COVID pandemic, when his schedule as a singer and DJ suddenly emptied out, he discovered a new love: uptempo hardcore. “I’ve always been drawn to especially bouncy uptempo. The energy, the speed, the hard yet friendly kicks. From there, I naturally got into early uptempo—and I might’ve liked that even more!” Jody shares enthusiastically.

From fan to live-act

What began as a personal outlet during golfing and day trading turned into a true musical mission. “I’ve really taken uptempo to heart. It helped me through a tough time, and you can feel that in my sound,” he says. So he decided to take a new path—one he’ll be presenting live on April 26: Bernal Bounce LIVE.

“It’s finally time for me to show everyone what I’ve been working on so passionately these past months,” Jody says excitedly. “At first, I considered going with a hardcore artist alias, but then I thought: screw it—this is just me. People know my name, so why hide it?” What can we expect? “It’s gonna be hard, but also cheerful. Bernal Bounce style,” he says with a laugh.

Jody is transparent about the process: “I’m not getting ghost-produced. I’ve definitely had help from people in the scene—no denying that. But I’ve experienced it all myself, built it myself. I really want to give the audience something real.” And this is just the beginning—he’s already working on an album. “But more on that later,” he adds with a wink.

“People just have to come to Supersized Kingsday and experience it for themselves.”

Supersized Kingsday Festival takes place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Aquabest near Eindhoven (a day earlier than you’re probably used to). For tickets and more info, check out the official website. And don’t wait too long—tickets are going fast!
