Being a Hardstyle MC is a profession on its own, says MC Da Syndrome. The most energetic master of ceremony from the harder styles joins the podcast PLAFONDDIENST to discuss the tricks of his job. “You can’t just pick up the microphone to say something: you have to feel the moment.”
MC Da Syndrome has been around since the beginning of Hardstyle. Hosting the biggest festivals such as Defqon.1, Decibel outdoor and Intents Festival, he is one of the most versatile MCs in the scene. “Whether it’s classics, early hardcore or the polonaise: I like it all,” says Wouter Koops in PLAFONDDIENST – The Dutch Hardstyle Podcast. For example, he started performing for €50 per evening, but now he has more than 1500 bookings (!) to his name.
“MCs don’t have to have the upper hand on stage”
Some would rather not have MCs on stage, but the events simply can’t do without the hosts. The energetic MC Da Syndrome reveals in this episode that he often makes himself a target when things go wrong. “I don’t care: I always take the blame when something goes wrong,” he explains. It can sometimes happen that the music cuts out. “I always stay nearby to keep an artist out of the wind. He must be able to do his thing.”
During the events, Mister ADHD only needs three things: a can of Heineken, 2 frikandellen with mayonnaise and a mic. He says he still gets goosebumps from that old hardstyle sound and can’t wait for Vroeger Was Alles Beter. “Those melodies you hear during events are really fantastic. The audience knows everything and everyone with great enthusiasm.” It will be his fourth time at the Hardstyle Classics party.

MC Da Syndrome knew so much about MCs within Hardstyle, that even two episodes of PLAFONDDIENST – The Hardstyle Podcast have to be used. “What do you think we have in 2044: a classics event with PVC kicks!?”
