Starting May 1, 2025, Spotify will raise the prices of all its Premium subscriptions. The increase ranges from €1 to €4 per month, depending on the subscription type. Families and Duo users will be hit the hardest. However, there is a way to avoid this price hike: switching to a Basic subscription.

The Swedish streaming company is raising prices to continue developing the platform. “This allows us to keep innovating, even in changing market conditions. With the new pricing, we can continue delivering value to fans.”

Subscription type Old price New price Increase
Premium Individual €10,99 €12,99 +€2,00

Basic vs Premium: What do you lose?

Spotify does offer an alternative for those who want to keep the old prices. Users with an Individual, Duo, or Family subscription can switch to a Basic plan — but only once. This new tier was quietly introduced and is only available to existing Premium users. With Basic, you keep the old pricing, with the only trade-off being the loss of access to audiobooks. Music, podcasts, offline listening, and all other features remain the same as Premium.

If you switch to a Basic subscription now and later cancel it, you won’t be able to switch back to Basic again. Spotify is also still available for free, although some features are restricted and ads will play between songs.

Basic subscription prices:
  • Basic Individual: €10,99
  • Basic Duo: €14,99
  • Basic Family: €17,99

How to switch to Basic:

  • Go to spotify.com/account
  • Click on ‘Change plan’
  • Select Basic subscription
  • The change will take effect on your next billing date
