Dejection is the newest addition to Gearbox Digital. After the mysterious ‘The Stig’ appeared once again last week, the label has now revealed who was hiding behind the white helmet this time. For the duo, joining Gearbox marks the fulfillment of a major dream. “When we started producing this music, signing with Gearbox Digital was always one of our biggest dreams.”

Anyone who has followed Gearbox Digital over the past few years knows that the appearance of ‘The Stig’ usually means only one thing. The mysterious figure dressed in an all-white racing suit is used by the label whenever a new artist is about to join the Gearbox family. Last time, Adjuzt was revealed to be behind the helmet during the Gearbox afterparty at Defqon.1.
Last week, The Stig appeared once again, immediately sparking speculation about the label’s next signing. Now, the mystery has been solved: Roel and Kevin, better known as Dejection, are officially joining Gearbox Digital.

“Signing with Gearbox was always one of my biggest dreams”
For Roel, the signing is particularly special because of his own history with the label. Back in 2023, he attended Gearbox Pole Position together with his younger brother, where he became a huge fan of the label. “When I started producing this music, signing with Gearbox Digital was always one of my biggest dreams,” Roel explains. “I attended Gearbox Pole Position with my younger brother in 2023 and became a huge fan of the label there. It feels truly surreal that it has actually happened now!”
Kevin also describes the move to Gearbox as surreal. According to him, the duo has poured a huge amount of time, emotion and energy into building Dejection and has now found a label that understands what they are trying to achieve with their music. “Signing with Gearbox Digital feels so surreal still. We’ve put so much emotion, time and energy into Dejection, and to now have a label that truly understands what we’re trying to create feels unreal,” Kevin says. “We’ve always wanted to build something that people can not only hear, but actually feel and relate to.”
With Gearbox, Dejection now hopes to bring that music to a wider audience. “We’re incredibly excited to take the next step together and see what the future will bring, but of course the most important part is getting our music to more people who can relate to our music in their own way.”
Gearbox sees plenty of potential in Dejection
Gearbox Digital is equally confident about the collaboration. Label boss Phil Macdonald says Dejection stands out to him among the new artists currently emerging within the scene. “I’m really excited about the signing of Dejection. It has been a long time since I’ve heard a new artist emerging that has something that sparks my interest,” Phil explains. “There’s glimpses now of a unique artist ready to break through, and I’m really confident for their future.”
According to Phil, the duo already stands out because of their musical understanding. “They have a really exceptional understanding of all musical elements that makes their music really stand out already.”
And it is not just their productions that have caught his attention. Dejection has also impressed him on stage. “Also, fantastic performers. It will be exciting to see them at more Gearbox events.”
Dejection’s first Gearbox release is on the way
The signing also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Dejection, with the duo’s first release on Gearbox Digital already lined up. ‘Anyone’ will be their first official release on the label and is now available to pre-save.
For Roel and Kevin, the signing is also a moment to acknowledge everyone who has supported Dejection on their journey so far. “We want to give a huge thank you to Team Gearbox and, of course, the fans who supported us along the way,” Roel concludes. “None of this would have been possible without you guys!”
