Wildstylez will have plenty of room to dive deep into his own archives during the upcoming edition of Vroeger Was Alles Beter. His previously announced ‘Back 2 Basics’ set will be an extra-long 90-minute opening set, giving the hardstyle artist the opportunity to bring back tracks that would normally be harder to fit into a prime-time set. “I can really dive deep into the Wildstylez discography.”

Vroeger Was Alles Beter returns to the Brabanthallen on Saturday, October 24 for The Next Level In Classics. When the line-up was first announced, ‘Wildstylez: Back 2 Basics’ was already revealed as one of the special sets of this edition. Now, it has become clear what fans can expect: Wildstylez will open the event with an extended 90-minute set.
In the first episode of a three-part podcast series surrounding VWAB, Wildstylez and Brennan Heart join radio DJ Barend van Deelen. During the conversation, Wildstylez explains that his early slot actually came about somewhat by necessity. “Yeah, it was kind of born out of necessity, but I actually like it. It makes it easier to play exactly those tracks we were just talking about.”

Opening VWAB gives Wildstylez the opportunity to approach his set differently than he would during a prime-time slot. Instead of only playing his biggest classics, there is room to dig up older and less obvious tracks from his archives. “Well, those tracks that maybe don’t sound quite good enough anymore. When you’re playing prime time, you want a little more,” Wildstylez explains. This time, he also has more time to work with. “I think I’m playing for an hour and a half as well, while normally it’s an hour. So I can really dive deep into the Wildstylez discography.”
Brennan Heart already has a suggestion for his colleague: “So that means the ‘Speaker Check Remix’ is coming?” Wildstylez doesn’t seem to have that one readily available, though. “If you still have it somewhere…” Brennan Heart replies: “It’s on a really old, crappy laptop.”
Forgotten tracks get another chance
According to Brennan Heart, digging up forgotten music is exactly what makes classics sets so interesting. When he hears Wildstylez play at these kinds of events, tracks regularly come by that even he had almost forgotten about. “Then I’m thinking: ‘Oh yeah, that one’s great too. Oh, and that track as well. Oh, that’s a massive hit.’ Sometimes you hear guys play tracks that you’d completely forgotten about yourself.”
At the same time, not every older production still works as well on a big sound system years later. “Some things just don’t sound as good anymore, which makes them difficult to play. The real bangers are easy to play.”
Make sure to arrive early
Anyone who wants to experience the full Back 2 Basics set will have to keep a close eye on the clock. The doors to Vroeger Was Alles Beter will open earlier this year, giving everyone the chance to be inside in time for Wildstylez’s 90-minute Back 2 Basics opening set. Fans who don’t want to miss any part of his deep dive into the Wildstylez discography should therefore make sure to arrive from the very beginning.
This gives Wildstylez the opportunity to play a set at VWAB that he rarely gets the chance to do during a regular time slot. Alongside the well-known Wildstylez classics, Back 2 Basics can make room for the tracks that would normally stay buried in his digital record box.
