According to Dutch ‘corona minister’ de Jonge, festivals and big events can only take place again when there is a coronavirus vaccine. “We cannot give a date for the last step, the mass events with national appeal”, De Jonge said in the briefing. “This can only happen when there is a vaccine, and no-one knows how long that will take. We hope it will be quick, but a year or more is a real possibility.”
Yesterday, the Dutch government announced the first easing of the coronavirus restrictions for school, bars and public transport. But events and festivals are at the back of the line. Easing of the restrictions for festivals will not be taken any time soon, which means we’ll see our beloved events in 2021 or even later.
‘No big festivals & events until there is a coronavirus vaccine’
According to the Vereniging van Evenementenmakers (VVEM, Association of Event organisations), events are left ‘in deep, deep misery’. “If you can’t work for this long, then there will defenitely be companies who won’t survice this crisis”, says the spokesman.
