Akimbo have been impossible to miss lately. With their new live act Game Over, a packed festival summer ahead, and the massive hype surrounding “Losse Polsjes” (translated to Loose Wrists), Ravi and Liam seem to be making all the right moves at exactly the right time. In PLAFONDDIENST – The Hardstyle Podcast, the duo explained how their track with Missy grew into what might just be the anthem of this festival season.

According to Akimbo, the hype started quite spontaneously. “I think it started when we posted a TikTok asking: what should we call this track?”, the duo explained in the podcast. “That’s when the loose wrists started coming up. Everyone was saying: this is the Loose Wrists anthem.”

Missy & Akimbo and the beginning of “Losse Polsjes”

The track originally started as a tool by Missy. “I genuinely thought: this is such a weird track actually,” Akimbo said. Later, when Missy asked online who he should finish the track with, Akimbo sent him another message.

“If you want to do it as a collab, let’s make it happen.” Ravi and Liam then added their own part, swapped some kicks, and the tool eventually evolved into a full-fledged track. At REBiRTH, they played the collab version together for the very first time.

Since then, the trend has become unstoppable. More and more videos are appearing on TikTok showing fans, artists like Act of Rage, The Straikerz and Ruthless, and entire dancefloors copying the move.

The duo also saw how huge it had become during Supersized Kingsday. “You could see everyone doing the loose wrists there. It makes absolutely no sense at all, it’s honestly insane.”

Akimbo keeps pushing forward: Harmony of Hardcore this weekend and ‘a summer anthem’ on the way?

For Akimbo, it still feels surreal that the hype has become so strongly connected to their track. “You can catch a hype with a track, and that’s amazing. But when an actual dance move becomes part of the trend too… you almost can’t make that up.”

This weekend, Akimbo will perform at Harmony of Hardcore, which almost feels like a home game for Liam. Expectations are high: “I think that entire area is going to be doing the loose wrists.”
