Sefa is back at Defqon.1 this summer, but according to the artist, anyone expecting a classic festival set will be served something different. In PLAFONDDIENST, he talks at length about This is Sefa, his performance on Friday at 11:30 on the UV stage. A set that, according to him, is entirely dedicated to experience, emotion, and a new phase of life.

Lately, Sefa has been seen less at festivals. He never officially announced that he was quitting, but he did distance himself from the life of going from booking to booking. During that period, he delved deeper into his faith, worked on church concerts with Als Alles Duister Is, and rediscovered what music means to him.
That development is also reflected in his upcoming Defqon.1 show. Sefa does not want to simply fall back on what he did before. Instead of a set that revolves entirely around energy and ecstasy, he wants to take people on a journey through a story. “For me, it is about conveying an experience and a feeling,” he says. That doesn’t mean the heavier side disappears completely. On the contrary: according to Sefa, there will certainly be some heavy moments. However, their function has changed. “It’s not a case of: there has to be a kick every half minute, otherwise people will fall asleep. No, every kick has a place.”
Sefa is back at Defqon: “In the morning on the UV for ‘fresh ears'”
“Everything must be in service of conveying the message and the feeling,” he says about this. In doing so, the show aligns with his current outlook on life. Not as an artist simply picking up his old festival rhythm again, but as someone who is once again searching for the right form to share his music.
Nevertheless, Defqon.1 remains a special place for Sefa. His path at the festival led from the YELLOW to the BLACK, the RED, The Spotlight, the Opening Ceremony, and the Defqon.1 Theatre. Now he consciously chooses the UV on Friday morning, where he wants to reach the audience with “fresh ears.”
