In the latest episode of PLAFONDDIENST, Sub Sonik joins on the bench for an open conversation about his musical journey, his return to the sound that made him, and his plans for the future. At a time when OG Raw is making a comeback, Sub Sonik finds himself at a crossroads, but one with a clear direction.

Sub Sonik emphasizes that a good raw track isn’t just about hard kicks, it’s about atmosphere.“There was a time when a lot of tracks didn’t really have any vibe; they were just all about the drop,” he says. “A track with real atmosphere creates memories. That’s why classics are becoming popular again.” To him, it’s the emotion and feeling that make a track truly timeless.
Return to OG Raw
The revival of OG Raw is a natural development for Sub Sonik. “I think it also has to do with the internet, OG Raw sort of disappeared for a while,” he explains. “I did a lot with that older sound back then, but it didn’t really catch on. Now you see more reaction, especially with guys like Unresolved and Regain, that’s the big difference now.”
Recently, Sub Sonik shared a trailer revealing that he’s once again embracing OG Raw. He says that decision came after his performance at Origins: “When OG Raw started coming back, I thought it was cool. What I had been doing recently was cool too, but I wasn’t 100% behind it. Then I did my set at Origins and realized, this is what people love about me, and this is what I stand for. That’s when I thought, this is what I need to keep doing.”
The vibe at Origins made Sub Sonik realize he was connecting with his audience on a deeper level again. “I played ‘Bring It On’ and the crowd went absolutely wild, it was insane. I got so many clips on TikTok and Instagram, way more than I normally do. I was totally overwhelmed.”
The sound he’s working on now brings back memories of his 2017 album Strike One. “I’m working with a lot of sounds from that era, and some new ones too, but mostly stuff that fits in that lane.”
