Vroeger Was Alles Beter returns to the Brabanthallen this Saturday. This year’s edition comes with a special addition: 3FM radio DJ Barend van Deelen will host a live broadcast from his very own radio studio. Featuring live sets from the mainstage, guest appearances by several hardstyle legends and much more, the broadcast will bring the festival experience to fans watching from home.

With the introduction of VWAB LIVE, Vroeger Was Alles Beter is adding a brand-new third area to the event. Right in the heart of the Brabanthallen, Barend van Deelen will take his place in a dedicated radio studio, broadcasting live from the festival throughout the day.

The broadcast will cover various highlights of Vroeger Was Alles Beter. Live sets from the mainstage will be streamed, while Barend will welcome several well-known names from the hardstyle scene into his studio. This will give fans the chance to enjoy the music while also getting a behind-the-scenes look at the event.

There’s also good news for hardstyle fans who can’t make it to the Brabanthallen. VWAB LIVE will be available to watch live this Saturday via VWAB.nl.

Barend van Deelen: a true ambassador for hardstyle

The collaboration between Barend van Deelen and Vroeger Was Alles Beter is nothing new. The 3FM DJ previously hosted the event’s three-part podcast series, exploring various stories from the history of hardstyle. With VWAB LIVE, his involvement now continues with a special broadcast straight from the Brabanthallen.

Barend has been giving hardstyle a platform on national radio since 2012. Together with Psyko Punkz, he used to highlight an important hardstyle release every week on his radio show. In the years that followed, both 3FM and Radio 538 featured numerous live sets from artists such as Headhunterz, Wildstylez, Brennan Heart, Atmozfears, Bass Modulators, B-Front and Frequencerz. Through these efforts, he has been championing the genre and increasing its visibility in the Dutch mainstream media for years.

In 2018, he even managed to get Brennan Heart and Trevor Guthrie’s ‘Won’t Hold Me Down (Gravity)’ selected as a Dance Smash on Radio 538, something he later admitted happened entirely by accident.

At 3FM, he continues to push for greater recognition of hardstyle. Since 2023, his initiative has brought a dedicated hardstyle night to the Glass House during 3FM Serious Request. Artists such as Ran-D, Wildstylez, Brennan Heart, Headhunterz, Sefa and Sub Zero Project have all performed there.

Vroeger Was Alles Beter: The Next Level in Classics

On Saturday, October 24, the Brabanthallen will be fully dedicated to ‘The Next Level in Classics’. Vroeger Was Alles Beter is once again bringing together an extensive selection of artists who have played an important role in shaping the history of hardstyle. Wildstylez will kick off the event with an extended ‘Back 2 Basics’ set.

With the addition of VWAB LIVE, this year’s experience will be expanded with a dedicated radio studio. Those unable to attend on Saturday can still catch part of the event live via VWAB.nl. For fans who want to experience it in person, the final 500 tickets are now on sale and available through the official website.
